One boob produces more than the other?!

My right boob is producing much more milk than my left. In a 20 minute pumping session, righty gave me an ounce more than lefty. Not cool.

This, um, sucks (ha) because I feed twins, both at the same time. Yes, I switch who is on what boob for each feeding, but for each feeding, someone is getting less.

I can switch them mid-feeding, but I'd really love to know what I can do to get my boobs producing the same amount...or at least close to the same amount.

Plus I'd like to produce more...especially since I will be pumping a lot more when I go back to work and need to keep production as plentiful as possible. I just started taking Fenugreek.

And...I hate pumping. Love breastfeeding. But pumping -- bleh! So when I pump and don't get good results in both boobies, it makes me even more frustrated. And like I said before, worried about the babies getting enough. I know, I know...all the worry is counterproductive, but....

Is there a way to get both boobies on the same production level or is this just how it is?

  1. My righty was always the over-achiever as well.

Was that pumping after a nursing session? If so than it could be that one baby took in more than the other. Or if one is a stronger "hoover" than letting that twin use lefty for a while to increase demand on that side.

Great job though! Best wishes in your quest to bump up supply :)

  2. Hi M,

I'd pump the breast that is less for a few days exclusively to increase the supply. My left breast is always fuller, but she feeds one breast at each time, works for me...

Remember, it's a supply and demand situation, so if you increase the supply on that breast you should begin to see an increase.
